No, just because you like story games does not make it a "no excuse" situation not to have them.
Geometry Wars doesn't need a story. Many FPS players play the multiplayer mainly and when they play the single player they skip the story and cut scenes when they can.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
