Somtheing else people don't seem to be factoring is generational franchise growth on Wii. I'm not sure exactly why people think Other M will automatically undersell Prime 1 when in about every other case, we've seen Nintendo's premier franchises perform better on Wii (Mario Galaxy vs Sunshine, Smash Brawl vs Melee, Twilight Princess vs The Wind Waker, Mario Kart Wii vs Double Dash, etc). I guess you could try to point out Prime 3, but it was basically entirely unpromoted and it still outsold Prime 2...

Those games are very compariable. They are sequal to each other. Other M is it's own game, so compairing it to Metroid Prime doesn't matter as consumers will see this differently. It won't break higher then Metroid Prime becuase it's a game about Samus's character, and people don't buy games about characters and stories.

I'd agree, Other M's only really comparable in that it's a bit of a series reset.  But again, we've seen franchise growth for almost every series on Wii, that's just want happens when you quadruple your potential audience.  Nintendo's also positioning this as a big game, up there with Mario and Zelda, and that hasn't really happened for Metroid since the original Prime either.

You're getting too hung up on Sakamoto's character emphasis comments though, this is still going to be a fully fledged Metroid game and I'd argue will likely have wider appeal than the Primes did (which were fairly divisive, even among Metroid fans).
