Honestly, a new IP with similar gameplay and graphics would be getting 9s and 10s even if it was linear and the story stank.

I agree with you in 50%. If it was new IP it certainly would be getting higher scores but i don't think current scoring for FF XIII is too low - from what I'm reading everywhere 7s and 8s are justified for the game with this amount of flaws.

Those 7s or 8s only look bad because reviewers love throwing 10s all the place around whenever they see dumbed down shooter-rpg hybrid (last case ME2 which has way too many flaws to qualify for zylions of perfect score, previous examples Fallout 3, ME1 or people trying to call Bioshock a rpg)
