I wouldn't say that persay, rather, that Nintendo fans actually like to have something to discuss and talk about, rather than something like "OMG, FPS #496 is announced!" News is actually harder to have a conversation about than a question for discussion.
Anyway, the actual topic at hand. I also don't really want Link to talk any more than he already has. For me, talking removes a level of immersion of the game. When everyone has scripted dialogue, it feels like one step closer to a movie. Conversely, having your main character mute means that you can think of something you might want him to say. It doesn't happen often, but there are times I want to scream "No, bad idea!", but the character in the game says "Sure, let's go off to nearly die for no reason!" That's when I know that the character isn't me, or any pseudo-personification of me.
