Isn't this shipped, not sold? Hopefully it indicates that it will surpass 5 million soon, but I am pretty sure it hasn't yet. Easy mistake to make though (assuming it is shipped, not sold, I am not 100% sure).

how many copies of a 2 year old game do stores need on hand? Hint: no significant amount. Maybe like 2 per store WW

I'm pretty sure that most times I'm in places like Game, GameStop, HMV etc, MGS4 is stacked like a lot of newer releases (not completely new, but 3-6 months). It has shelf space going about 2-3 games across and 3-4 deep, so 6-12 copies. On top of that, they probably have some in the storerooms.

I'm just saying that this is probably a shipped figure, but I'd expect it to hit the 5 million mark in sales soon (if this is shipped).

I saying no way on that. MW2 doesnt even get that kind of treatment and that has sold a shit ton more, is newer, and sells a shit ton more each week (Platforms combined then yes it would probablly get that type of shelf space but not seperate)

I was in HMV a few days ago (walking through on the way to buy a jacket) and MW2 had *at least* 5 games across and 3 games deep of coverage, just for PS3. Fifa 10 still has similar coverage. I've also noticed that a lot of older PS3 games are now shelved sideways, with 20-30 copies of the game on the shelves at any one time. One whole row was dedicated to some mech game of some sort, which is about 50 copies.
