Delete your Firefox profile (save your bookmarks and passwords first using password exporter addon), it will then make a new profile and will work perfectly, I had the same problems a few times in the past and it fixes it everytime!
Firefox profile is in "C Drive-->Users-->your name--> AppData-->Roaming-->Mozilla-->Firefox"
That will fix the memory leak issue, the not closing correctly issue, slow loading and startup issue etc.

You might wanna try running Firefox in safe mode with extensions disabled first before doing something so drastic - almost every perceived issue with it is actually a result of end users bloating it up with shittastic extensions. =/

I have 3 extensions... No Script, Ghostery and Tabberwocky. (well also the Microsoft NET framework assistant but that seemed to install itself from the beginning)

I'd try what I said up there^
Honestly, I was pulling my hair out when mine kept playing up, I did loads of research and testing and deleting the profile (saving your bookmarks and passwords first) is the only way to get it working again without having to uninstall delete all registry/program/profile files and reinstalling etc.
