Man, I played Kotor 1 (he first time) on a shitty old E-machine computer with an ingegrated graphics card and 128mb RAM; I was lucky if the framerate shot up to 30. I think the only place in the entire game it approached 50+ was standing still in a tiny hut in Kashyyk. But yet it's still one of my all time favorite games, easily. Plus after that, it's hard to get me to complain about framerate in a game.
But to the topic...no, it's really not overrated. Maybe your issues detract from your personal enjoyment of the game, but they don't make it any less of a great game, and many others aren't bothered by them.
