Complications said: Them guys getting banned was a joke, and you say they weren't banned because they disputed your numbers? I never seen bans handed out when Killzone threads for example were duplicated all the time, the same with Killzone graphics threads that also started 'flame wars.' You have members genuinely confused by your controversial numbers and your mediocre explanation, but the best you can do is ban them? Questions still sort of need answered, like why it took VGC so long to find out that it had been overtracking PS3 sales etc. Apart from your loyal VGC fanbase, it looks like you are banning people for disputing numbers, especially to non-members. And probably another question that won't get answered...what's up with the mod system. I was reading a 'Holy Hell Adjustments Thread' a while back and noticed that people from it got perma-banned for questioning the numbers, albeit in a harsh tone, yet here the same thing's happening but a lot shorter bans are being given out? Anyway, I understand you getting annoyed and all, but the response is, well, crap. If you had did an article with a full and good explanation about the adjustments before they were implemented then there wouldn't be half as much trouble as there currently is. So, I know the 'loyal fanbase' will shout at me for writing this, but its my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I might get banned for writing this (even though I haven't broken any rules), and, I'm not sure I'l be coming back here anyway. |
I'm not going to comment on your final sentence, but I will comment on your questions.
Maybe you didn't notice something that was added a while back. There aren't very many duplicate game threads anymore. There is one official game thread, and all related chatter is required to go in that thread. On rare occasions there will be reason enough to have a separate thread about the same game.
Killzone and other games provided the foundation for that rule.
These members aren't genuinely confused, they are pushing their own agenda under the guise of confusion. They are thinking to themselves "the numbers just CAN'T be right". The mods and the owners should not be held accountable for taking (in most cases) upwards of an hour to explain to people why they the numbers are correct.
I myself don't know what that permaban vs shortban thing is about. I didn't notice any of that, but when you mention "harsh tone" my mind immediately goes to the worst case scenario that they are outright trashing the site, and that's permabannable on any forum. Here they are not, they are questioning the numbers despite ioi's warning. So, they got banned.
I agree that there should be no ban, but a warning and a thread lock, and then a ban on recitivism. There should also be a sticky, but a lot of the people that've been banned here today have been given plenty of explanation and still refuse to listen to reason. On top of that, they blatantly did something the owner told them not to do with no regret.
