I already stated that it was his website so thanks for pointing out the obvious. Clearly he makes the decisions, because it is his service....like I said, not sure if you read that part or any of my post as a matter of fact, because your comment has no valid base you just reiterated what I said in my post. |
5700 walmarts WW
1150 Best Buys WW
1724 Targets WW
3900 Sears Co stores WW
6200 Gamestops WW
1576 Toys R' US WW
1349 GAME/Gamestation WW
550 Costco WW
180 BJ's WW
602 Sam's Club
400 Game Crazy
That's 23k stores that sell ps3s.
THe costco BJ and Sams probably carry 40-60 in each store, and bestbuy, sears, walmart, target, and toysrus probably carry about 20-40 each. Gamecrazy and gamestops and GAME probably carry 7-15 in each store.
that makes: 66000 for the warehouse stores, 421k for the big box stores, and 80k for the small games stores. That accounts for about 570k ps3 in the world. Of course, this list doesn't account for most asian, euro, african, south american, australia, and online stores. Additionally, distributors carry a large number of consoles on their own. Because these stores get delieveries 2-3 times a week, they need distributor centers nearby with hundreds of consoles each. For example, for every ten stores there needs to be a distributor nearby with around 80-100 consoles. That's kind of a generalization, and is not factually accurate, but for every 4 ps3s in a retail store, there needs to be at least 2 ps3s ready to replace nearby. So, that 570k number blossoms to about 1M. Many sources indicate that Walmart is about 30% of American sales which is incredible. I'm not really sure what percentage the others are, but it has the highest market share by a lot. I can imagine that all the other store retailers probably make up 40-50%. So, add another 20% and you've got 1.2M
Additionally, those distributor warehouses I mentioned don't just hold back order, but the majority of stock for the online sites as well. This number can easily be 1.3-1.5M just for these stores listed above and online sites. The rest is probably either in really small stores, like mom and pop shops, in transit or in the other stores I didn't list.
2M in stores and warehouses is a very fair number, and is easily reachable when you consider all the other stores that I left out. It could even be as high as 2.8-3M, which would actually mean that vgc has ps3 overtracked.
I just wanted to mention that I'm not claiming that all these numbers are 100% accurate, but when you start adding up all the numbers, you get a pretty good range of how many there are, and, any number in that range is debateable and probably not solvable. So, if you think ps3 is over or undertracked by 100k, you're probably right, but it's not like this site is going to move from the center of the range to either end of the range because it's dangerous for the stats involved. In reality, you just say "the numbers are not 100% accurate" or "we claim a _% margin of error" and just update numbers when you find concrete evidence.
