Nope.  They send you back new models without BC.  Hence why i'd get mine fixed myself.

It happened to a friend of a coworker who was confused why his PS3 didn't have BC anymore after he got it back from Sony.

He had an old 80 gig and it got replaced with a new 80 gig.

Well they give you the option.

They said they couldn't fix it but could send him back a "new one" or send back his old one.  He didn't know what a "new" 80 GB playstation meant.

Being normal and being done with all PS3 console news after he had the PS3 console.

 

If they've really started giving back refurbished models of what you had though... that's great.

Though I doubt they have any refurbished 20 gigs.
