For one PS1 released in Japan in December 1994... it released in the US/EU in September of 1995.
Vs Playstation 3 which was released practically simaltaniously in November of 2006.
So the PS3 has about a year advantage in two of the three big markets in this comparison.
If you add in the extra year for Europe and NA PS1 sales are about 46.04 million at this point. Minus a short amount for shipping since they didn't change reporting methods yet. Though that's less important then this generation considering how popular the PS1 was.
