why the big increase over PS2 iterations?

It is pretty shocking... I think it's actually the first RPG series to see an increase on PS3 vs PS2!  No clue why, maybe all those people who just finished FFXIII are looking for something new?

Also it released on the same day that DQ6, EOE & The Last Rebellion came out so it had competition

Yeah, from what I've heard hardcore Gust fans are actually really disappointed in AT3 (and were in Rorona as well).  I sort of suspect it's selling in to a new fanbase or something... it's also worth keeping in mind that Bandai publishes the AT games (not Gust themselves), so maybe it got a bigger push than usual?
