It was settled this year.

[edit] Apparently there have been a variety of EU investigations on Microsoft since 1998ish. Including the abuse of power investigation.  At least one has been in the headlines within the last two months.

Does anyone know if these usually get paid, or does it get litigated over the course of years?

The lawyers always get paid. That's all that really matters.
