I think you're wrong about that. When they cut the price sales were only briefly up YoY again, and quickly declined again. The run up to the holiday season was not fantastic for Wii. It's only after NSMB released, which just happened to have phenomenal sales in the timeframe, that we've seen massive YoY growth, which even continued after December and appears to be the cause of shortages now.
We'll never be able to prove 100% which was the bigger factor, but NSMB lines up much better with Wii's YoY increases than the price cut does. |
It's really hard to say either way, because NSMB also aligned perfectly with the general holiday buying season. I'd say it really was more likely equal parts software, price and season that led to the turnaround.
