The first was better. Disgaea 3s battle maps seem kinda awkward, like sometimes you have to walk a whole lot to get to the bad guys. Which means I found it easier just to lug around main character + cleric.
That's the problem with the game still imo, you can just play the entire game with no strategy and one character, aside a few block puzzles in fights that is.
