Well, I see you comparing a new IP (ARF) to sequels (Atelier, Magna Carta).  Pick a niche RPG sequel on Wii (like Shiren 3) and it actually did comparably.  I also see a Tales game that launched against FFXIII only managing to match what a low budget half-sequel managed on the same platform already a year back.  Disappointing yeah, but understandable in hindsight.

Would you also say "game-like games" underperform on DS?  I mean Graces outsold Hearts.  And your god (the batshit CEO of Enterbrain) also said DQIX underperformed.  You're in full agreement there?

Consedering the Lower price point, one savefile (which pretty much forces the hardcore DQ player to buy a second copy) and the enourmous userbase, i'd say yes.But does it matter that it is a new IP or not? End of Eternity just did came out, and it's for sure that it did sell above 100k.Tales of the Abyss did came a week before Kingdom Hearts II, and look how it sold. If the Tales of fans own the console for which they are releasing the To game they will buy it, and there are probably a lot out there that just did buy one the consoles for just for just one them. But Graces just didn't do it for them, and perhaps that has something to do with the catalogue that the Wii has to offer for the traditional Japanese gamer..

Koei Tecmo itself expected a million from Gundam Musou (on just PS3) and expects the same from Hokuto Musou (Ps3/360 multi).   Given that, I don't think anyone can really be surprised Sengoku Musou 3 didn't meet their expectations either, they have something of a track record to uphold...

That million is just stupid PR-talk, nobody in his sane mind can believe that it will sell that well (even 500k would be a miracle).

No, the million figure for Hokuto came from shocked retailers (and breaks down to 800k PS3, 200k 360).  Gundam's million was an actual projection they put out publicly.  The PR "joke" was that it should really be 2 million (1 million for Gundam, 1 million for Musou).  Given all that, I wouldn't be surprised if Koei had expected like 500k for SM3.

EOE is from an already successful RPG dev (tri-Ace) and one of Japan's top 5 publishers (Sega).  If you want a PS3 game more comparable to ARF, then you should follow something like the upcoming Last Rebellion.  Let's see how it sells compared to ARF...

Retailers (and Sinobi) already blamed Graces' "bombing" on FFXIII, so I'm not going to argue that.  Unless you think you know better?

edit: and lol, I missed your DQIX nonsense.  The single save slot was to encourage people to buy their own copies, not multiple copies. Pricepoint argument seems reaching, it's equivalent to $65.  And DQIX still isn't even done selling (doing a solid 5k-ish weekly), plus with the budget version it'll probably crack 4.5m and may even rise to Wada's 5m dream.
