A) The Candian government, believe it or not is less corrupt then the US government. I know it seems odd considering all your recent corruption problems... but in the US, such a healthcare plan would likely turn out to be a way to pay back campaign contributions more then anything else due to the way our congressmen run for office.
B) There is a debate on if it works in Canada. There are a number of things our "broken" healthcare system due much better then Canda does... and when it comes to the factors that decide if healthcare treatment is working... the US is up there with any other country. US healthcare has three main flaws when it comes to numbers.
1) Cost.
2) Average lifespan rate, which isn't actually a indication of healthcare. For example we have a higher murder rate then most other countries... as well as a higher rate of obesity then most modern countries. You can have better medical treatment then another developed nation... if all your people don't take care of their bodies it's not going to matter.
3) Infant mortality rate. The US counts it different then other countries. In the US, any baby that's born and dies counts for Infant Mortality. In all other countries a baby needs to be born a certain size or weight to be considered "a baby".
In reality the only issue the US healthcare system has is cost. Even those without insurance tend to get really good care.
