Homosexuality is a normal variation of human sexuality (or animal sexuality, for that matter.) You might as well be calling left-handedness a disease. |
Or zoophilia, or OCD, or claustrophobia, Asperger syndrome.
The thing with psychological diseases is, that they are quite subjective. You can't just measure brain activity, or something like that, and declare that "you have a psychological illness", or "yours is just a variation of normal behavior". What one would call a disease, others would call an unique personality trait.
The golden rule is, that as long as something is considered weird and abnormal by normal people, it is an illness.
Currently, homosexuality's acceptance is heavily debated, (it is supported by a slight majority in the USA, and a minority worldwide), but bringing up the American Psychiatric Society's classification is kinda like bringing up metascores to prove a game's quality.
It is a well-educated representation of a popular opinion, but hardly an objective and undeniable truth.
