Probably because Soriku posted this announcement but yeah, the DQ series isn't really popular here in the West (which is a shame ).

I never played the first DQMJ for the DS, but it seems to be a good game.

Its more like Pokemon is similar to Dragon Quest.  If you go back and play Dragon Quest Monsters, and even further back and play Drago nQuest V and VI, you'll see that Pokemon heavily barrowed their basic game engine, item collection, exploration and character interaction setup from Dragon Quest.  And of course, the idea of collecting monsters from Dragon Quest V and VI.

However, Dragon Quest Monsters, the Dragon Quest 'spin off' as some people say, does have a lot of differences to Pokemon.  Most notably because it tries to focus on being a lot like Dragon Quest instead of just being a Pokemon clone.  Eventhough it came out after Pokemon.
