Actually, she did have a terminal illness, but she didn't sacrifice herself for the calm.
She sacrificed herself for two reasons:
- She was mother of a Guado/Human hybrid, she was never accepted in either society for that fact, and even her husband maester Jyscal didn't accept her, he only allowed her in his Guadosalam manor because of Seymour. That fact drove her to loneliness.
- Seymour and her mother were banned to the island of Baaj because of the facts mentioned above, which coupled with her terminal illness, led her to sacrifice herself so that Seymour would be chosen as the summoner who defeated sin, not to bring peace, but for him to be finally accepted into society.
And you're both right, she was unnamed in the game, sorry for that :)
