K. First of all, I'll be as cute as I want to be. We're not in court; we're arguing about a 15-year-old game on the internet, so we don't have to be deadly serious all the time. Anyway, characters in FF7 are as unique or useful as you want them to be; they're customisable, so you can have whoever you want in your party at whatever time. The onus is on the player to define what each character's role is and what they can do. There are some natural differences between the characters, but they're pretty small. Wanna know why Cait Sith is so crappy? Because everyone hates him, therefore no-one puts him in their party when they have the choice and he neither gets levelled up nor equipped with any decent materia/weapons/armour/accessories. Of course he's going to be crap. And as for the use he has in the storyline, that's completely different from his use in battle and you know it. And as it happens, he is an important part of the party at several points. Storywise, all of the FF7 characters have some part to play, even if it's a small one. Even the optional characters add something to the game. |
No, you won't be. It's not about being serious; rather, it's about not overloading with smiles and Japanese words in English (which you didn't do with this post and I'm glad). But frankly, I no longer care.
So much of Final Fantasy 7 is limit breaks, though. And while Cait Sith's limit break is potentially really powerful, the vast majority (and I mean the vast majority) of the time, it's pretty bad when compared to those of Cloud and Barret. Look, I'm not a huge Cait Sith hater. I had him in my party for a good while (up until I fought Jenova Death, or something). I tried to like him, but he's just not that great. His physical stats are worse than just about everyone (his megaphone attacks are pitiful), his limit breaks are lame, and his magic stats are terrible (his summons do significantly less damage than with other characters). Besides that one-in-a-million limit break you demonstrated, there's absolutely no use for him. Even Yuffie is better. Besides, I was talking about battle use from the beginning. I know that the likes of Gogo have no storyline significance, but I was arguing usefulness in battle.
