Hopefully they have a division just focusing on the net code this time around. The engine is fine but the net code is crap, it needs to be completely rewritten and added dedicated servers. Both Gears 1 and 2 are really great games with really good online, but because of the netcode it becomes a lag fest. Also shotgun is ridiculous, akimbo model is balanced in comparison.

The Baltok pistol is also ridiculous. I've gotten my head blown off all the way across the map by someone who shoots me once in the head with it. Just a tad bit annoying.

That has more to do with lag and Host advantage, on your screen you got shot once but on the hosts screen you got shot twice and by the time that data gets sent back to your connection you are already dead. Even if you are hurt just a little, the boltok will pop your head if they land the headshot. Just using a Boltok it takes 2 headshots to make it pop, headshots are way too easy for the host since other players always have the delay.

This is also one of the reasons why everybody uses the shotty. It is far easier to just gib someone with a single or couple of shots, then it is to down someone with an AR and then Execute them or shoot them again (depends if the gametype uses Warzone or Execution rules). It's the easiest way to get kills yet everybody calls you a noob if you use anything other than the shotty, it makes no sense to me. You can unload an entire clip on someone rushing you with a shotty and nothing happens to them, they run right up to you and just gib you or they 2-piece you (melee followed by the shotty).

I'm good with the shotty and all the ridiculous wall-bouncing, rolling and blindfire spamming but it gets a little stale after a while. Epic tried to slow the shotty down for Gears 2, but the fanboys cried for AN ENTIRE YEAR and now it's back to the way it was in Gears 1. And everybody melees, it's pretty sad when a melee is more effective than bullets.
