The only thing this has in common with Xenogears is that the guy who worked on that game is working on this one. The name change was Nintendo dedicating it to him.
Xenogears was no masterpiece either in my opinion. The story didn't draw me in and the combat did not improve enough over time to warrant beating the whole thing. Xenosaga was even worse with its tepid pace and hour-long cutscenes. The battle system was mediocre at best, and when it came down to it nothing better than your standard FF. It is also common opinion that the combat is even worse in the second Xenosaga episode. So for those hoping it is Xeongears, I hope they are wrong.
Also, once again the trailer is from E3 2009, so it is very old production-wise. It could be all chibi now for all we know.
