The Last Remnant wasn't even intended to be exclusive. Where are you getting this stuff? How can you say it was money-hatted? It was a multi-plat game from the start but Square-Enix had trouble porting over the game over to the PS3 (it was a technical mess on the 360 to begin with!) and then they just quietly dropped the PS3 project it seems. Especially after the game got shat on by western critics and many jrpg fans, they probably don't see the point anyway. I don't think there is a single PS3 owner out there who is asking for the game. Even among those who don't have a good enough PC to run it. Square-Enix was using middleware (Unreal Engine 3.0, just like Lost Odyssey) and had trouble with it. Japanese developers aren't used to using middleware like that. Also Tales of Vesperia was the only third-party timed exclusive/exclusive that was confirmed to be funded by Microsoft (Namco said they received some funding from Microsoft and used those funds towards a PS3 port). There's no word on Star Ocean and like I've said, The Last Remnant was a multi-plat game (360/PS3/PC) from the start that ended up not being released on the PS3 due to technical issues (and probably due to poor critical reception from critics and fans too.) Beautiful Katamari is yet another Xbox 360 exclusive that was meant to be multi-plat but got dropped for PS3 because yet again, the developers had difficulty porting the code over to the PS3. Even to this very day, you see 360 to PS3 porting issues crop up (Bayonetta, a Japanese game that was intended to be a Xbox 360 exclusive with no moneyhat involved. If there was one, it wouldn't have been ported to PS3 before release). Sony had to release a patch to clean it up. |
I didn't mean to type The Last Remnant; I meant Infinite Undiscovery. Sorry, just a slip
You allow no room for logic in your debate. Because it wasn't explicitly stated we ignore the obvious empirical evidence? The fact is that in Japan you cannot possibly make money on a 360 game, unless it's been partially funded. The only reason to not make those games multiplat would be because you got some of that funding, and the 1 year delay between releases is a pretty standard sign of a timed exclusivity contract. Bayonetta was announced as a multiplat game, there was never any suggestion it would be exclusive. It was simply coded on 360 first and ported to PS3 poorly. Many multiplats are like that. Same with PC to 360.
We know these were bought because we are logical, adult human beings with our own minds capable of making simple and logical deductions based on existing evidence rather than statements from companies who benefit in no way from admitting this to us (in fact it just pisses people off, who wanted the games on their platforms, so they specifically avoid it). I have no problems with MS doing this. It's a valid strategy that Sony has employed as well, and I'm sure Nintendo would employ if they were ever in a situation where they felt they needed it. That doesn't change the fact that the 360 has for all intents and purposes zero Japanese support after spending an ungodly amount of money to try and get it.
