It all depends PSrock.
1) If you are not partial to any company and have an open, non-bias view it is POSITIVE news (if the forecast is indeed correct) based on what was generally predicted will be an other bad quarter - until last month or so when positive signs surfaced.
2) If you expected $3billion profit for the quarter or anti-sony it is BAD news.
3) If you are pro sony it is GOOD news.
Don't get too bog down in bullshit like operational profit and that crap, the last few quarters sony was making a $billion+ operational loss.

The losses sony were taking before and the cost cutting measures taken..lay offs etc.,

Operational losses can only get bigger. They can't get smaller, hence why operational loss doesn't really matter vs net loss... it's a loss.

That's not true. A company can sell assets to cover an operational loss. They can post a net profit despite having an operational loss.
