I think that is overly optimistic ... The Gran Turismo series has sold so well because it was a great game released on amazingly popular hardware, and there was little in the way of competition and most of it was bad; these things are not true for Gran Turismo 5.
The slow sales of the PS3 speaks very loudly about how unpopular the PS3 is (as compared to what the PS2 was), and it seems like there is another decent to good racing game released every month; Gran Turismo may end up being a better game, but it probably will not be a "spend $400 on a system to play this game" better game ...
