I don't believe that he is giving a lower score because of this feature... Now the reviewers are really using their personal tastes to make a review, this is really sad. It's like complaining about random encounters or turn based battle system in a RPG and saying that it's outdated.
Anyway, I don't see any purpose in finishing a fighting game unless it will give me a new character. For me, any fighting game should have unlockable characters because it will increase the replayability.
