I have a theory.

Why can't S-E focus on both series, since both series are major selling franchises for S-E?

Seriously, are we now down to FF vs DQ?

That's what I'm saying.  I don't want Final Fantasy to die...I want it to thrive.  I actually think it would do BETTER if SquareEnix focused on other series as well.  Would Mario be doing good right now if all Nintendo did was focus on and market Mario games?  No, they'd be over-saturated, go down in popularity and their other games would suffer.

I know, but this is how this thread will go down, because it's not the first one that I've seen.

S-E should focus more on other series, that's true, for years i've been wanting them to go to the good old days of both Squaresoft and Enix, but in the end, it's up to both the shareholders and Wada's decisions. FF and DQ are the biggest cash cows of S-E, KH has the potential to be amongst them as well. In my opinion, if they have continued with both the Chrono and Terranigma series, those two could have had the same impact in the long run.

It'd take a little further back then that.

Square's problems started before the merger... thanks to Wada actually.

Square afterall was worth less then Enix at the time of the merger.  Why Enix agreed to let Wada be CEO I'll never know.

I guess the old man wanted to retire and didn't think it was proper for their VP to be ahead of Squares President.

Shame really... if there was one thing Enix did well, it was support a diverse lineup of IPs.

Wada entered Square at what year precisely?

I agree with your last phrase entirely, Enix was my favourite publisher in the SNES days mainly because of that, they supported a diverse lineup of really good IP's that could have had a huge impact if they had been considered into future gens.
