Yeah, it orignally comes from EA higher up, but as you can see in the OP apparently DICE is playing along.

From what I remembered, DICE has been saying that they respect MW2 as a great game and want to make the best game they can, but ultimately it's THEIR game.

 

However, they did played along when MW2's PC hate train started, but that seems to be deserved, and has nothing to do with actual gameplay, but dedication to the community:
