Well the game is about exploration, you search about for the route while knowing the general direction. Usually it involves the use of a recently gained technology.

Yeah, it's important for Metroid Prime to always be using the technology you acquired last to try and test the areas. They generally won't try and deceive you, like Super Metroid very much will.
