Is console gaming really doing that badly in Japan?

Not true since the GC only had one million seller in Japan (Animal Crossing might make it two) just being made by Nintendo doesn't mean millions of sales in Japan, PS2 had plenty, but the point being GBA had some nice sales but nothing compared to when the gameboy dominated or DS now GBA was the second place console during the PS2 era, the DS just replaced it, while the Wii is second place to it.

You're also ignoring the point there isn't that big difference between home consoles and portable consoles like people make out, its the same market there, see DQIX being put on DS instead of one of the home consoles, gamers are gamers, the world isn't America where everyone acts like portable gaming is its own thing seperate from gaming at home.
