I think they all have some simple AI. In some cases for example when you fortify buildings they need to get into positions(windows & such) and they do it individually. Another good example is when you make them run they might scatter and lose formation, because of fences and other stuff that is blocking their way. And word epic has been overused way too much already. Lets just say Total War battles are something very different.
