When the gamecube came out, it was outpaced in certain areas by the original xbox, now with the Wii it basically matches the original xbox almost 1:1, the wii does have certain areas it can outpace the original xbox though. So if we look at what happened in the past as well as the outcomes, we can see that technology isn't something Nintendo is going to push, seeing as the weaker Wii has these hudge sales, while the gamecube failed when trying to compete in with the power of it's competition. So, we can only hope that the Wii is AS powerful as the 360/PS3, but I wouldn't say that it'll crush them as you suggest, remember Nintendo is profit driven. |
Ok you have a point. But the Wii will have a longer life span then the GC its the best selling nintendo home console of all time. Between Xbox and Wii are 5 years time. Between Xbox360 and Wii 2 will be if we assume it release in 2012 which is a reasonable date 7 years time.
In 2 additional years the costs for parts decrease extremly.
In 2012 the Xbox Hardware is 7 years old. Nintendo is profit driven ok but lets assume the Xbox will be at 100 Dollar in 2012 the production costs will be even lower. So lets assume Nintendo wants to make profit like on the Wii they could build a 180 Dollar console with that money they will easily build a console which is a lot stronger then the Xbox360 or even the PS3 (No bluray No XDRAM no CELL PS3 would be as cheap as Xbox360).
And another thing is Nintendo played it safe they lost two gens in a row normaly they made pretty powerful consoles. N64/GC. So its the first time they made a weak console but now they have tons of money.
I still think they will stick to their buisness model but they will definetly build a console which is stronger then all HD consoles. The parts will be so cheap in 3 years. The Wii2 could be even cheaper then the WII, (without Bluray) but would still be more powerful then PS3 or 360.
