"Well I like flashy games._."
It's not the flash. It's the "more flash, less game, because we think that's what games are all about" mentality. Flash can be good as just the cherry on top of an awesome game, like Resident Evil 4 or Saints Row 2 (which is basically a prettier, larger GTA III, with better controls and performance).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
