The guy which posted the stuff from the IBM Paper has explained why its hard to hack the PS3 (infact the paper has done it). Geohot is not a nobody HE and Matuielh which hacked the PSP said some other things.
Who are you going to believe a nobody or them, Do you think he actualy know more then those guys ? No way they are the best and what he did is quoting informations whith good understanding of the matter, He is nobody compared to them.,

@geohot yes but the whole security relies on the isolated spu, all the keys are there and it does much more than just decryption and checks, so yes you can manage without hacking them, you can even get rid of them (though I can't guarantee that wont crash the system) but it still isn't hacking the system overall until you get to hack every single part of the console and dump every single piece of hidden code.
In that regard even the psp isn't truly hacked considering the kirk and spock engines have not been dumped.

You can't expect to know everything and dump every piece of code. This hack is enough for homebrew, full linux, and even backups.

geohot it is just a matter of opinion and perspective I suppose, though I mostly like hacking into a system to know more about it and for the challenge than actually running homebrews (though running homebrews is I agree a much more useful goal) In theory of course as long as you run unsigned code on a system you have hacked it, though you can already do that through otheros.
Of course this is a difference in points of view but I do believe that running your own code in hypervisor mode is still only hacking a part of the system rather than hacking it all because you do not hack into lv2 (at least so far), nor can you get to the loaders, so not all of the system is actually hacked.
Of course this position is merely mine and definitely arguable.
matiuelh is the sceptic which really understand his stuff but even he agree that ok the PS3 is not fully hacked,licke the PSP but you can do homebrew full linux with GPU support and even backups.
I dont think this is good I really am worried about this stuff and I hope that hacked PS3s lose their online abilityes.
The guy who posted this stuff here on this thread has nowhere near the knowledge the both have NO normal person has this. Maybe engineer from Sony.
He has explained why the PS3 is a secured system but those two are hacker their job is it to make things work DESPITE of the barriers.
Thats why damnyouall is right.
I can guarantee you NOBODY will come here and has the abilitys to judge the plans of geohot not even mathieulh because geohot is the number 1 its easy as that.
