If I were Microsoft I would budget 1/2 to 2/3rds of a billion or about a years profit on massive advertisements and development support on top of any other advertising etc they were intending to do. I think its a battle which will be won by the $ more than anything else.

The question is, how much money can Sony budget to do the same?

Not necessarily. MS threw loads of cash at Japan advertising and got back what?

I know that is an extreme case but it shows you can't buy everything.

I am now gathering data on the European ad campaigns of each comapny.

So far MS are still doing more ads in europe than Sony and still can't outsell PS3 there.

But yes, more money spent on ads usually helps.

All sony needs to do is show the consumer that the PS eye can do basic natal stuff - or better still release a better PS eye, and that to better enjoy SOME motion sensing games you need a contoller...something I believe.

As I said before, Sony can get PS3 to do natal. MS can't release a controller for natal because they will be going back on their word about the promise of "no more controllers".

You need to start with a product which is desirable in the first place for advertisement to make an ounce of difference. What I was talking about was their putting forward money to assist 3rd parties in developing and marketing their content rather than strictly marketing Natal on its own.

Btw Sony cannot just release a controller to do Natal, it'd take about 3 years of pure research and development for them to reach the same level as Natal in terms of software development. Microsoft has been developing Natal for years, Sony can't just whip something out of their back pocket which is similar.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?
