A lot of games don't do amazing that get sequels. Look at No More Heroes. :P 

Though NMH was Suda51's best performing game and has an incredible cult following.

Bayoneta is already platnum games best performing sales wise and best reviewed game (and Clover from capcom if you want to go back).

The game sold almost 700K on both platforms despite a shady quickjob PS3 port (sad face)... At this point of their career, these veterans know how to make the most game for least amoung of $$$. I wouldn't be surprised if the game already made money.
