Johann said: @superchunk: I'm sorry but that comment just had me rolling. So you think the political issues in D9 were dumbed down, but in Avatar they were just fine? Are ya shittin me? I always respected your opinion, even when I disagree with you, but the only point in which I could agree that Avatar is better than D9 is... the visuals. But then again 8 times the budget will do that. |
So you think its realistic in any way that a race og beings who are FAR more powerful than us would allow themselves to be put into those types of living conditions? I mean we could even use there technology. A more realistic solution would have been that they come down and haggle their way to more fuel sources and food and trade us something.
As for political specificness, D9 was just stupid. I'm mean c'mon Nigerians living inside controlling everything? Yeah, like the US would allow such a thing considering the potential of those weapons and overall technology in the mothership. It was just a stupid scenario.
Whereas Avatar's reverse setup is not only *exactly* what we do no (i.e. US and other colonial powers) to every other weaker nation on Earth (just research diamonds in Africa), but its highly conceivable in relation to a weaker non-human species (akin to how we handle animal populations now).
Like I said, the only far-fetched ideas in Avatar were the actual Pandoran species and connectivity. However, that is plausible considering the biological physiologies of our own Earth based species. Once we figure out how to use computers to communicate via simple mind control, how hard do you think it would be to map simple reactions to animals brains as well? Only difference is Pandora's was via evolution.
