If you make quality products that that particular fanbase looks forward to, particularly because being exclusive has many dev advantages as well, why should they be concerned? We're talking about an 11mill+ selling franchise here, thanks mostly (if we include the PC version of the original Gears of War), to the Xbox 360. Even if Epic was in trouble financially, which I'm sure they aren't, Microsoft would save the day. Besides, it's no wonder they're happy where they are, the franchise is a pretty big hit now. |
Not to mention the 2 Gears game were such a huge advertisement for the Unreal Engine and have secured a tonne of money in licensing fees due to how great the games looked. Gears was effectively used like ID used to use the Quake engine, they make money off the original games but the engine is where the bucks are made in the future!
