okr, I think your summary of the adventure game industry is pretty much spot on. I do wish some German-developed titles (e.g. Simon the Sorcerer 4) were better published outside Germany. I'm looking forward to The Whispered World too. Aside from Telltale, the only other US developer I'm interested in is http://wadjeteyegames.com/ and he's "independent".

Simon 4 has been published outside Germany http://eu-adventureshop.gamesplanet.com/products/ASHSTS4?affiliate=AG If you don't want the downloadable version though, amazon.co.uk currently offers the retail version for only £7 (I'm not familiar with prices or offers of Australian online shops).

I haven't played Simon 4 (or 5, which came out here last year) - for some reason I don't like the art style of the new Simons - but here's a recommendation of a German-developed title which I really liked and which is already published in English:

Ceville http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,990 (currently available as retail version for less than £10 on amazon.co.uk and as more expensive download on adventureshop or Steam)

This year not only the The Whispered World but also The Book of Unwritten Tales and Edna & Harvey the Breakout should be published in English (though this is not guaranteed, as international releases of European p&c games are delayed very often). Together with Ceville these three are the best German-developed point&click games from 2008/2009 I played (I have yet to play Secret Files 2 and Black Mirror 2).

You probably already know, but Runaway 3 (A Twist of Fate) is also already available in English, at least as download version: http://runaway.gamesplanet.com/runaway-a-twist-of-fate-game-focus.html (retail version up to now only available in German and French as far as I know, which seem to be the two strongest markets for p&c adventure games nowadays). Side note: It seems this game from Madrid-based developer Pendulo Studios is not yet available in Spanish at all.
