Wii HD is coming this year, says Pachter >_

Look, I'll make this clear for anybody who still believes Nintendo will release an HD Wii:

- IF Nintendo make an HD Wii, 3rd party developers can make HD games for it, no? However, those games would still be considered far inferior by fanboys and developers alike, because while it then may be in HD, Wii is still underpowered compared to PS360. A glorified HD GameCube, of sorts. (Of course Wii is more powerful than GC, but you get the point.) So games with inferior graphics, in HD. Core HD games will still not be ported from PS360 to Wii HD. it would be like porting PS2 games to N64.

- ALSO, releasing an HD Wii would effectively reduce the console's installed base from close to 70 million to zero. WHY would 3rd parties put big-effort, big-budget games on a console like that? They won't.

- Wii is the BEST SELLING console of this gen, the fastest selling videogame machine ever, and on track to be the best selling in history, ever. Nintendo's making the largest profits in their entire 120+ years of history, totally crushing both MS and Sony, and is actually one of the most successful and profitable companies on this planet, having completely altered an entire industry, with their competitors falling over themselves to get a piece of Nintendo's scraps. Ever since DS launched, Nintendo's story has been an insane rollercoaster-ride of profits and success. WHY would they spend millions, maybe billions, creating, launching and supporting an upgraded machine, when it's not necessary. In fact, the only ones screaming off rooftops that Nintendo NEEDS an HD Wii, are their competitor's fanboys and biased 'professionals' that would love nothing more than to see Nintendo fail.

- Finally, an HD Wii would effectively alienate the current installed base of the Wii. It would've been the same if Nintendo had released DSi with PSP-like horsepower, instead of keeping it down. Sure, they COULD have. But they didn't. And they won't.

And please, if there are any trolls reading this, don't bother coming up with some whining replies. Pachter's comments make no sense.
