there's some stuff you have to look at first though
1. do you ever see yourself using other OS?
2. if you have the 2nd generation 80gb ps3, will you ever use the sacd (super audio cd, not implemented in 3rd gen 80gb ps3, ps3 slim)
3. the only difference between the phat 80gb ps3 and slim is the bravia sync (ps3 slim)
4. ask sony before they sent you a fix 80gb if it's posible for them to switch it for a slim (doesnt hurt to ask some manufacturers actually do this if both devices are same price)
