There has ALWAYS been middle ground on health-care reform but the fact is that even the moderate democrats were locked out of the crafting of the bill.

Oh and let us not forget that up until Brown was elected the democrats COMPLETELY controlled the legislative process and no amount of GoP Obstruction meant a damn thing. It was other democrats blocking the bill.

I think moderate Democrats had alot of say. Hence there being so much "assistance" for the private insurers, etc. You can't possibly put that on the progressives, especially as it has taken away money from the public option.

The point about moderates not being involved at all is specifically about the crafting of the bill.

That Reid and Pelosi are now begrudingly caving to demands from the moderates after the bill has been written clearly doesn't make it a moderate bill all by itself.  It is still a heavily liberal bill that was carved up to make it so moderates can hold their nose and vote for it.

But all of that misses the point I was really making, that democrats, not the GoP, have been blocking the bill.  The truth is that opposition has been FAR more bipartisan than the actual attempts to create a bill.
