The Sony Motion Control (SMC) won't be de-facto unless they mean making it a standard part of the basic retail package for new PS3s.
Plus, without some 'nunchuk' style piece, it couldn't work with a great number of genres. So unless each PS3 comes with 1 DS3 and 1 SMC AND every game built after that has the default configuration using the SMC (DS3 only as an option) it will not hit a very significant part of the userbase.
Also, the standalone SMC will need to be available for cheap separately for the existing users.
