Microsoft is only trying to keep this battle raging to avoid the PS3 having another selling point that to counter they would definitely lose their price advantage .
All that money spent in the Paramount temporary deal ,all those offers ,price cuts etc .....for what ?
Having a 27% market share in US ,a 23% in PAL and a meager 5% in Japan and Asia .
Even if they somehow managed to keep their own in North America the rest of the world is going Blu Ray and the companies should create Br versions of their movies for the overseas market (thus having to support BR ) if they dont want to cut their increases radically limiting themselves to NA inner market .
And as for PS3 owners buying movies I think many of those arent .I for example didnt buy a single BR movie until this week .I just bought 300 in BR .
I have just received my FUll HD 40 inches HDTV and had to buy a BR movie to see what it truly can do .Prior to that it was no use buying BR movies that I wouldnt see better in my SD TV .
But ,from now on ,its pretty clear that what it is stupid is continuing to buy DVD movies if there is a BR version out there .The difference in quality is awesome .
