I use GC and N64 as examples of this instead of the PS1 and PS2's games that sold a lot because Nintendo was in the losing place. It just shows that games that are exclusive can still sell bucket loads regardless of how many more consoles the competition has over the other. :/ |
It sold 9.8 million on the N64, and ~7mil on the GC.
On the Wii, it has sold ~21 million, and counting. If anything, it shows that userbase does matter.
Another example more similar to FF: DQIX. The series has broken records thanks to releasing on the DS in Japan.
I don't know why you push this "userbase means nothing" argument. I know a few people that only own X360's who are getting this game, and they wouldn't have done so if it were a PS3 exclusive. That's just how it is, there's no magic involved.

Ok then why is this trend not translating into the same thing when it comes to Exclusives going MP? No used to be exclusive has made that leap in sales from jumping. And The Wii is still no where close to where the PS2 was (120million) and it has pulled off game breaking numbers with its titles when the PS2 rarely did. Its obviously more of a corrolation between the fanbase changing rather then it simply being more available cuz more systems have been purchased.

dude what are you so mad about?!?
