I think you're stretching a little. Its not a spinoff. Each game is just an interpretation based on the crystal myth. The director's vision of what that myth is. Its not a prequal or sequal to any of the final fantasy XIII games. Its an entirely different game with an independant storyline. As different as final fantasy VII to final fantasy VIII. You only consider a spinoff if a game is from a game. If final fantasy versus XIII was a spinoff, then shouldn't they literally call it "final fantasy XIII versus" or "versus final fantasy XIII"?

Is kingdom hearts a spinoff because it shares some similiar elements to final fantasy?

Kingdom Hearts is it's own series, it shares nothing with FF except a few characters and the JRPG genre, it's differences are far more than any FF spinoff shares with the main series.

Tell me then, what do you consider to be a spinoff?
