As I've said in other similar threads, I'm not happy with the state of the industry. But mostly because I see it as just being an extension of the previous 'console wars' and 'graphics vs content' going on last gen, but extended way beyond tolerable levels. Now everything has become targeted directly at types of 'gamers' (casual vs hardcore) or the systems they like (wii and ds vs PS3/XBOX360/PSP). Its no longer about being able to enjoy a game or playing the game, its about playing the RIGHT game or owning the right system, and that's just sad.

THat's why I'm happy. It's the direction, mind, not the state of the industry, that is being asked about here.

We're headed toward a critical mass where something is going to give in a fiery explosion, and thereafter the slate will be clean, and a new focus will be brought to the table, with developers honed to a razor's edge (assuming they survive).

And inn the meantime, there's some bitching games to play.

The direction of the industry is what I stated.  People pointing fingers, calling each other names and blaming each other for the 'problem'.  Which is just an extention of last generation, but taken to the extreme due to a number of reasons.  In this generation, the 'direction' is the same as the end result, because its just an endless cycle of blame and people/companies thinking they're right.
