Because they play nothing alike. At least the main FFs share gameplay. Versus has been compared more to Kingdom Hearts.

The pepole we are talking about, the ones that will buy a console for VS, won't be the pepole who enjoyed FF13 because of it's gameplay, buy because of the story.

They will buy PS3 for Versus because they will know that VS possesses a story of the same caliber, if not better.

No, people that care that much about story read books. Versus has a different plot that looks to be absurd when compared to even past FFs. Not to mention that gameplay completely factors in because it affects how the story is told.

If it was just a story thing, there wouldn't be such a difference in sales between FF and its spinoffs. They're all still telling a story.
