HappySqurriel said: The advancement that are brought forward by Sony and Microsoft are (basically) obvious evolutions that would come forwards anyways. While Nintendo hasn’t always gone against the grain, Nintendo tends to be the most successful when they are producing a product that the rest of the industry doesn’t believe in; and (as a result) the industry ends up being forced to move in directions no one else will push them in. It’s kind of hard to believe now after the Nintendo DS and iPod-Touch/iPhone have been so successful, but before the release of the Nintendo DS no one saw the value of a touch screen on a portable device. In a similar fashion, there is no way that Sony would produce their motion control wand or that Microsoft would be releasing Natal if it wasn’t for the success of the Wii; and we wouldn’t see companies trying to release fitness software in high numbers without Wii Fit. Realistically, without Nintendo forcing the industry to evolve I’m afraid that the same dozen titles would be released every year until everyone got bored and the industry collapsed.
